If you or someone you know is LGBTQ+ or if you have even simply grown up in today's society... then you most likely know the term "coming out".
Anyone that has had to "come out" or is wanting to... knows that it can be a struggle. Or for some a relief. But some questions that many ask and wonder is... Why should LGBTQ+ have to come out? Why can't we just be ourselves and that be all that matters? With no judgement. Why can we not see a same sex couple walking down the street holding hands and not over think it? Why can't our sexual orientation no matter what it is not be just normal? Why don't those who are straight have to come out? It doesn't seem fair. However, as the mantra of people everywhere state, Life isn't fair. But still the question remains... Why does being gay, trans, non-binary, bi, pan, etc. have to require coming out of the closet? And why can't being homosexual be the default?
Those who are LGBTQ+ should NOT feel as if they must come out. Especially if it is for another person. Meaning, if two guys are in a homosexual relationship and one of them as yet to come out to their parents and the other person wants them to come out to make their relationship easier, they should not force them to.
So, no, it is not fair that those straight people do not have to come out. But, coming out of the closet is a beautiful thing no matter what the actions of others may portray it as, coming out is not for them. It is for us. So we must stand proud and have pride in being who we are meant to be. Coming Out is our thing. So we have to own it! And be PROUD!!!
